Chin National Party granted political party status

5 May 2010: The Chin National Party (CNP) has been allowed to contest the forthcoming elections as a political party by the Election Commission of Burma.

The New Light of Myanmar said, the Chin National Party (CNP), led by Mr. Zozam and educated youths has registered with the Election Commission on April 7 to contest the election. It has been political party status and permitted to function as a political party on May 3.

The Chin National Party will be in the election fray but though the Chin Progressive Party (CPP) has registered with the Election Commission, no permission has been given for it to fucntion as a political party for the 2010 general elections in Burma.

There are 28 parties that have applied for registration as political parties for the election, but till date only 14 parties have been granted political party status.
