Five civilians killed in US drone attacks: Report

Islamabad, Jan 30 : Five persons, who were killed in the January 23 US drone attacks in South Waziristan of Pakistan, were innocent civilians, The News reports.


According to well placed sources, the US missile attacks carried out in the Gangai Khel area in South Waziristan on January 23, killed five tribesmen namely Malik Din Faraz, Sher Ghulam, Hamdullah, Habib Noor and Lohi Khan.

The US led predator attacks in the tribal areas of Pakistan is targeted at the Al-Qaeda terrorists in the region, but Pakistani authorities have claimed that the drones are affecting innocent people more.

Islamabad has urged United States numerous times, to discontinue the attacks as it is proving counterproductive in its ‘war on terror’ in the region, but Washington is firm on its stand.

Earlier, the US Defence Secretary Robert Gates had said that Washington would continue strikes by unmanned Predator drones against militants in Pakistan.
