Space research centre in Assam

Silchar: The Centre has given its go-ahead to a proposal of the Union ministry of science and technology to set up a Rs 50 crore space research centre at Assam University site in Dargakona hills, to carry out extensive studies on astronomy and other related space matters.

University vice-chancellor Tapodhir Bhattacharjee said on Sunday that the university authorities have already carved out three acres out of its allotted 600 acres to the ministry for establishing the space centre, which would be the fifth of its kind in the country.


Dhubri: Three persons of a family sustained serious burn injuries when their residence on Ram Krishna Mission Road under Dhubri police station caught fire on Saturday night after an LPG cylinder burst.

Nagaon: Former chief executive member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council (KAADC), Mangal Singh Ingti, will be taking over as chairman of the council on Monday.

Kokrajhar: The silver jubilee of the Bodo Writers’ Academy and the 1st Bodo National Festival-cum-7th Bodoland Book Fair began on Sunday at Bagduar Nwgwr in Chirang district.

Kokrajhar: A police official from Borbori police station was injured when a mithun from the nearby Manas National Park attacked him at Chinadibasti Balabari in Baksa on Sunday. The animal was later driven back to the park.

Dhubri: A suspected car thief —Gautam Malakar— was arrested by the Golakganj police station in Dhubri on Sunday.
