Manipur Writers` meet out to prove men smart but women smarter

IMPHAL, Jan 30 : With teh objective to prove women`s solidarity and unity are strong if not stronger than that of men women writers fromall over the northeast have come together at the first ever North East Women Writers` Meet, inaugurated at the Kangla Hall today.

The meet would also seek to reiterate women`s unique nature and position in the region which has been a vital bridge in giving a truer and more positive image of the northeast.

The three-day writers` meet is being jointly organised by the department of art and culture, Manipur under the aegis of the North East Zone Cultural Centre Dimapur and Leimarol Khoijeikol (LEIKOL), Manipur and was attended by MLA Th Nandakishore and Dr. K Sobita, joint director art and culture, Manipur as chief guest and president respectively.

Th Nandakishore expressed the need for recognising the emerging women writers in the region and maintained that the meet would ignite the subdued talents of the women writers. The chief guest also donated a sum of Rs. 10,000 as an assistance for the meet.

Around 12 participants from the entire north east states attended the inaugural function. During the meet the participants from other states revealed that such meets gave them the opportunity to share ideas and different views and also gave them the chance to interact with the women of the north east.
